Meet Katie Cole originally from Melbourne, Australia, now based in Los Angeles, USA. Not your every day female singer songwriter. Does she dominate with ballads? No. Does she compose songs on the piano? Rarely. What she does do then? She rocks and enjoys a loud guitar, a strong melodic hook and an up tempo pop song. Growing up on a strict diet of rock music from her Mom, she was fed Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin in one ear and Maria Callas from her vocally classically trained, Father. After a quick detour in music to Smashing Pumpkins, Aretha Franklin and Eurythmics, Katie describes her own style of music as having flavors of Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow, Fleetwood Mac and Colbie Caillat. She calls it “Americana meets British Pop”.

Having written songs for established artists like Gloria Gaynor (USA), 2 Fabiola (Belgium) and Ultrasun (UK), Katie spent a good handful of years touring in Australia where she released an EP locally. It wasn’t long before she started to set her sights on the world. What soon followed was an Autobiography on her website listing her favorite producers and songwriters to work with and a surprising (but much wanted) return email to Katie Cole. Acclaimed Record Producer Howard Willing (Smashing Pumpkins, Counting Crows, Liz Phair, Sheryl Crow, Ok Go) found her music on the web and reached out to Katie to discuss working together. Plane ticket booked, hire car and hotel paid for and Katie jumped a few planes back and forth before deciding she needed to be based in LA to springboard her career. With 2 suitcases, a computer and her guitar Katie up and re-located to California for good.

After the successful 2011 “LOST INSIDE A MOMENT EP” masterfully planned and produced by Willing, Katie has received unexpected major radio play in the UK. BBC RADIO 2 have championed and supported the title track “Lost Inside a Moment” by play-listing the song. “It’s a great song” [and] “looking forward to hearing more of your songs in the future” said BBC2 producer Phil McGarvey. Her follow up single “Sunrise” was also playlisted. Never sitting still for too long, she has since won awards for her song-writing including MusicOz in Australia, is a recipient of “ASCAP Plus” award 2010 & 2011, Artists in Music Award 2012, grand prize, Gold status and “MOVADO FUTURE LEGEND” trophy. Movado ran a full page story in the New York Times and have featured Katie’s song “GRAVITY” in their BOLD watch campaign airing all major US Television networks including NBC, ABC, CBS, Bravo and Comedy Central.

Aside from performing in London, Nashville and New York, Katie performs in Los Angeles regularly at Room 5, WItzend Live, Hotel cafe, The Mint and the Roxy. She has shared the stage with names like Glen Campbell, Jackson Browne and Anna Nalick and leant her vocals to many artist’s albums including Glen Campbell and Scarlett Johansson.

With a new album “Lay It All Down” in the pipeline featuring Kris Kristofferson and Instant People, her new single and video ” I can’t Wait” is out now!!

Katie I really like your acoustic stuff, like the couple covers I’ve seen on your site. Not so much a fan of the pop overproduced stuff, but that’s my taste, plus I have very small venue, where voice and guitar or 2 or 3 person bands w/out much amp sound great! You would too! So , a stopover place for you if you ever tour the north. I’ll find you a nice place to stay free and record you live here, and you can trade with a small intimate concert for maybe 30 to 50 people… deal? 😉 cheers, all the best, Tom – indie arts host in small town northern Ontario.
